Brazil in Chicago first opened its doors on October 2006, in a small office space in Uptown. Our Founder, Marcelo Jarmendia, brought to Chicago his experience teaching languages ​- he had taught Spanish in several companies in the city of São Paulo before moving to Chicago. 

 

A couple of years later, the interest for Brazil, its economy and its culture increased considerably, and our school expanded to a four-classroom space in Lincoln Square.

 

By 2014 Brazil in Chicago had taught over 1,000 students, from more than 80 countries. On that year Marcelo returned to Brazil and the classes started being held in different locations.

 

As always, we are proud of having our successful method and instructors who are native speakers, fluent in English (and in other languages), with college degrees and a long experience teaching Portuguese. They are not only highly trained but also are passionate about teaching the language and culture of Brazil.

 

Throughout all these years, we have been serious about being the only school in the Midwest dedicated exclusively to Portuguese. We have allied ourselves with other Brazilian groups and institutions to offer our student the closest experience to being in Brazil, without leaving Chicago.

 

But now that Marcelo is in Brazil, our students can have an immersion experience in the city of São Paulo - either for a few weeks learning the language or for a couple of hours over a cold caipirinha or a nice cup of Brazilian coffee.
