Curso Avanzado de Portugués para Hispanohablantes

This is an advanced course designed for students fluent in Spanish who have some background in Brazilian Portuguese, or the equivalent of the Curso Intermedio de Portugués para Hispanohablantes. This class emphasizes oral and written communication skills, and upon completing this class the student will be only one level away from becoming fluent. This course will cover both spoken (col- loquial) and formal Portuguese, through many different texts and discussions in class that will make the student use all the verb tenses and expand the vocabulary. As for the grammar, all the tenses will be reviewed, with a special attention to the irregular verbs. A very special attention will be given to idioms and idiomatic expressions not found in a dictionary. Last but not least, the cultural aspects of Brazilian day-by-day life will be shown by the book, the instructor and the students who had lived in Brazil. Moreover, conversational structures will be used in the class.

This class runs for 12 weeks, and meets once a week for 2 hours at a time. This class is taught by a na- tive Brazilian instructor with a background in Spanish, who has been teaching both Portuguese and Spanish in several capacities for over 8 years. Upon completion of this course the student is ready to take the Curso de Conversação em Português.
